I have popcorn in my pocket
And I have also, with varying degrees of recentness*:
-Seen Troy.
Since everyone and their local columnist has chosen to comment pretty much exclusively on a) the Briseis bit and b) Brad Pitt in general, I take it upon myself to talk about something else.
...Odysseus. He is a cool man without a cool part. This is very sad. Done well, of course, but his full awesomeness just doesn't really get to shine through. :( Personally, if I had to choose between being credited with the Trojan Horse or the Flaming Twigballs of Death as a military strategy, I would have chosen the Flaming Twigballs of Death.
-Gotten my 2 sciencey courses at the community college. Astronomy starts this Tuesday :O!
-Painted a lovely mural for the Japan-themed Vacation Bible School. Mostly it has trees. And mountains.
-Decided to get a digital camera for mah birthday! Now I just need to know what kind to get. Anyone who has anything to say on that, speak!
There, a public entry, just for you.
*I liked 'recency' better, but decided against it. It means I'm a horrible decision-maker and I have no self-confidence. So there.

Alas, Silla has called my bluff of having actually read the Iliad in any detail beyond book 3. -_-
You are right in your sizing-up of this possible sequel. o_o Not so workable. Unless they do a thing like, "Oh geez, we were wrong, the gods ARE important, and they just didn't help us at Troy because ((*the scriptwriters make something up here*))." *shrug* Anyway, I'm wishing 'em luck, because then we would have another Sean Bean movie.
What did I think of the Briseis thing? Nothing very positive. As hinted above, I'm not too invested in the original story or anything, but it just.... aggh! Wouldn't happen! Never mind the annoyance of being able to tell exactly where they were going with it early on. Or effectively making her the female lead. I don't know if they did it because they felt like they needed a strong woman in there somewhere, or if having Achilles Grow As A Person was just part of the plot to make Brad Pitt look EVEN BETTER.
...Which segues nicely into my second point. :p What do I think of Brad Pitt in general? ...I don't know. He'll always be Louis to me, actually. Not because I particularly liked that movie, or him in it ((I didn't)). It's just the first movie I saw where he used his Nobly Impressive Guy voice, which tends not to change no matter which Nobly Impressive Guy he is. o_o Whatever.
