What those dang movies were

Okay, so the response to that movie thingie was less than spectacular. I can understand about the really obscure ones, but geez, you guys missed some CLASSICS. You need to GET ON THE BALL!

...Anyway.
1. "I read that sea turtles navigate thousands of miles on instinct!"
From the inimitable and basically fantastic Super Mario Bros.: The Movie. You know, the live action one. This is one of those movies where, if you're under 11 or so when you first watch it, then it's good forever. Otherwise... it's really not. XD (I think I may have been about 13, actually, but I was a very 11-ish 13.)

2. "Joooe~! I'm in one of these boxes! Find me!"
A good stand-alone line from Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Movie. The choice of this one was a toss-up between it and "See big man putting screwdrivers into things!..." or "'That may be the last of them.'/'But probably it isn't.'" Or... well, there's a lot, really. Good one, go rent it.

3. "Lay this pool cue across the top of our heads!"
A phenomenally little-known but still neat film called The Wonderful Ice Cream Suit, notable for 2 things:
1) [livejournal.com profile] phrotus and I both discovered it independently, and are the only people we have ever heard of who have seen it. ((In other words: where were ya on that one, man! D:)
2) It's based on a short story (of the same title) by Ray Bradbury, and is the only book-to-movie I've come across that was better as a movie. *I* think.

4. "I don't think she finish her psalm yet."
Ah, Princess Caraboo, how I love thee. Phoebe Cates plays a poor British girl who makes up a language and pretends to be a shipwrecked Indonesian(?) princess, and it works. True story, too. This movie CHANGED MY LIFE! Also, this line is spoken by Kevin Kline as a Greek butler. Yay.

5. "It is the wind of Independence... and it carries aloft the bird of Freedom! which will drop the egg of Democracy on YOUR HEAD!"
From Zorro: The Gay Blade. Folks, this is just a good movie. There's not much more to say. It's hilarious and you should go find it, now.

6. "...One thing I can't stand, it's people groveling."
The first one on the list to be gotten! I'm glad SOMEBODY did (where somebody = [livejournal.com profile] oraclegoddess), 'cause it's from Monty Python and the Holy Grail. I had a hard time choosing a line from this that wasn't BLATANTLY obvious, actually.

7. "Well-- it needs work. I have to go."
Okay, so maybe this didn't stand out to YOU when you watched Rudolph and the Island of Misfit Toys, but it's like a legend in my family. Whenever we need to express disdain or dissatisfaction with something-- there you go.

...I come from a family of quoters. o_o

8. "Who died and made you Ed McMann?"
Benny & Joon. Wonderful, overlooked Johnny Depp movie. Maybe not the best quote selection from it though. "You're out of your tree." "...It's not my tree."

9. "WE thought... YOU was... a TOAD!!"
I think our anonymous winner was Megan. Hi, Megan. So, this comes from O Brother, Where Art Thou? Was sure someone would get this one, as it's pretty memorable, but no one did.

10. "Wings? ...I don't have wings!"
Guys. The Dark Crystal? YOU ALL FAIL.

11. "And I got a permanent just for the occasion!"
...Maybe the problem here was just not having seen The Wizard of Oz RECENTLY. I know I kinda overlooked this line when I was little 'cause I couldn't really tell what he [the Lion] was saying. But I watched it again and then I thought it was fantastic.

12. "Aye... sea turtles."
Pirates of the Caribbean, gotten by [livejournal.com profile] renshai. Mostly I just picked this one to match the sea turtle quote at the beginning. To have a theme.

I'm THINKING about doing this again, 'cause I thought of a lot of movies I wished I'd used instead, but I'm not sure anybody would care. o_o Would you care?
