Okay, so there's Mozilla, right?

And in the address bar, before the url, it has this little icon that represents whatever site you're on. For all bookmarked things it has a generic green bookmark on a yellow piece of paper or something, but other than that it's scarily thorough. No matter how personal or obscure your site may be, Mozilla uses its creepy Mozilla powers to come up with a tiny 5x5 or so icon that relates to its content or visual theme.

I KNOW not every web designer creates one of these for that express purpose, or even knows that some browsers have this feature. So where do they all come from??

*nods* And for those non-big websites that have 'em, I think the coders just found the little code to display one (as I know a couple people who have done so). For more information ('cause they'd caught my attention when I got Mozilla awhile ago), you can try www.favicon.com or even make your own through here, although LJ may force you too keep their pencil logo. ^^
